About Us

The Roast of Sherwood name was inspired by Sherwood Forest has Paul the proprietor came from a small village on the edge of the historical forest. The Roast of Sherwood started trading early 2009 and found a permitted home on Whitecross Street shortly after. The Market first started business in the 17th century, making it one of the oldest markets in London. After a period of decline, the street is now back on the up, having benefited from a programme of investment and regeneration in recent years. We would like to think we have contributed to the success of the markets and helped it along its way to becoming a trendy market once again. Paul having spent many years working has skilled butcher at London’s oldest and most famous meat market Smithfield’s.Paul has great eye for the finest quality meats available that helps us achieve the best roast sandwiches.
